Marketing Your Articles On Your Own Successful Website or Blog

Turbo charge your WordPress site buildingHi Guys,

This post “Marketing Your Articles On Your Own Successful Website or Blogcontinues the theme of my last post Article Marketing: Using Ezines, Newsletters and blogs to promote your articles” I mentioned that it would It will help your cause in marketing your articles if you had a few quality articles already published online to which you can point prospective clients towards as examples of your work. I also stated that the est way to do this was to publish your articleson your own blog.

Running a successful website or blog, however, requires some creative thinking, nevertheless it is also a good idea to follow some traditional blogging practices as well. One of the best ways to increase the SEO value of your blog or website is to submit your blog to high quality article directories.

This will help you establish yourself as an expert in your niche while increasing your pagerank, your keyword relevance and, in all probability, gain some quality click-through traffic in the process.

The problem is that article directories are very similar to blogs in the value they can bring to your blog or website. For every quality article directory that will help you establish an online presence, there are probably twenty or so that were creatively designed to waste the time of rising web authors.

A common mistake that novice bloggers make is submitting their articles to every web directory they find, rather than spending a fraction of the time researching which article directories work best for their niche.

In the past I made the mistake of downloading an article submitting application. I guess I was taken up by the hype created by the developers of the program and their affiliates in which they bragged about how their piece of software allowed users to submit their articles instantly to a hundred article directories across the Internet. And all this with just a few clicks of a button.

I Know. I know. There is no such a thing as push button riches but as a newbie you just can’t believe your luck when you come across something like this. You immediately think that you’ve hit pay-dirt – that is until you use the program and you discover that submitting articles is not nearly as effortlessly as they claim.

Granted, it does save some time, but it still requires quite a bit of effort on the part of the user. First of all you still have to register with each individual directory and while you do not have to go each website individually in order to submit your articles because you preloaded the articles into the submission forms, you still have to invest a lot of time manually submitting each article.

This wouldn’t be so bad, if it wasn’t for the fact that most of the article directories linked into the submitter provided no value. In fact, many of them no longer even existed. I was pretty annoyed by the number of directories I tried to access through the software only to find a homepage telling me that the domain had expired or the site had been taken down. Of the 50% that still existed at the time I used this software, I only heard back from a few of them about whether or not my article was accepted. Almost all of my articles submitted are still living in a state of purgatory waiting to be reviewed.

The next problem was that of these hundred or so directories, even if my articles ever got posted they would probably yield no value. Only one of the top 20 article directories appeared on this list, while the rest were mostly no name directories no one ever heard of.

When the homepage of the article directory itself only has a pagerank of 1 or 2 any article listed would not have such a luxury. And when you thin about it, it is unlikely that anyone would ever find your article if it was posted on a directory that no one has ever heard of. Worse, since search engines hate duplicate content it is possible that an article approved on a useless directory may prevent an article from a high quality site from being indexed.

This is why it is so crucial that you not only write great articles to get backlinks to your website, but you also must submit them to the right places. Look for a directory that provides a high pagerank and yields a high amount of traffic. Check whether the links provided by the directory are nofollow. Such links are useless as they do not pass the pagerank back to your website.

It is a good idea to submit to a few article directories. What you must keep in mind is that you need to focus on the right articles. If you focus on submitting your articles to the top 10 directories, you are going to create many high quality backlinks that will be extremely valuable to improving the success of your website or blog.

Learn how to go about creating squidoo lenses and how to use hubpages amongst others as they can also provide great exposure to your articles and have high pageranks that will be passed on to your blog or website.

As always I really appreciate the various comments you make and the feedback you provide.

I sincerely hope that you found the above informative and useful.

Warmest regards,
