How to write Quality, Informative and Entertaining Content

How to make your mind a money magnetHi guys,

In this short report we are going to look at how to write quality, informative and entertaining content.

Those of you who may have already read some of my articles and reports will know that the one thing you always have to keep in mind the simple fact that the primary goal of your website is to build and continually add to your customer list.

Google Updates

I’m sure that many of you have read about the various updates Google has made wiping out many sites in the process.  However, many of these sites were geared towards fooling Google through the use of auto blogs, article spinners, spammy content and extremely low quality PLR articles.

The thing is that those of us who try to provide good quality content don’t really worry about those updates simply because the methods we use are not based upon any loopholes, software or some questionable tactic geared towards fooling Google.

The only reason Google makes these updates is that, apart from having a duty to their shareholders, their mission is to provide a “quality user experience” to those who use them to find information.  After all when you search for information using Google, or any other search engine, you want the search results to be relevant to your search and not a bunch of spam, filler or recycled information.

This is why you will find me reiterating time and time again the importance of creating quality informative and entertaining content.  By providing a regular stream of quality informative and entertaining content you give your visitors a reason to return to your website.

Providing Content

A very effective method used to provide content is through the creation of informative articles.

Apart from the fact that these articles can easily be posted on your website they can be used as a ‘viral marketing tool’ in order to attract a loads of traffic while helping to build your credibility within your niche which in turn will lead to more sales.

With a bit of forward planning you could write your articles in such a way that taken together they can easily be converted into an eBook or report to either be sold or given away as part of your viral marketing.

The sad fact is that a lot of people are put off from article and viral marketing and all the traffic advantages they bring simply because they believe they need to be a great writer to be able to take advantage of those techniques… and the whole idea of content creation scares them half to death.

Now I know that a lot of you may have been put off writing because of experiences at school or college and that because of those experiences you may feel that you can’t write or you think that you hate writing, but the reality is, everybody can write even those failed English and feel that they can’t spell.

I’m willing to bet that the majority of you reading this would have written emails to friends, family or for work; or you may written an essay for school; or a letter of complaint; or written down a recipe for a friend or family member.  And if you have done any of the above then you can write.

For those of you who have never ever written a semi- intelligent email, letter, essay or article your whole life its time that you started learning how to write.  In fact it is essential that you do so.

The Dramatic Impact of WordsMastering Your Inner Game

You will come to realise as I have that words can have a remarkable impact on your readers.  Your choice of words can influence your reader’s response in one way or another.

You can change the meaning of a sentence by either adding or omitting a simple word from it.

By constructing your sentence and/or paragraph in a particular way you may be able to connect with your reader at a deeper level thereby changing their life and they may remember what you said forever.   However, depending on the construct of your sentences and/or paragraph the reverse is also true – you could in effect fail to connect with your reader and damage any previous connection there may have been between you.

It’s amazing what simple words can do when arranged in the right order.

“I will write with honesty and feeling.” – Ted Nicholas

Writing is a constant work in progress

Writing is a constant work in progress. In order to get the ball rolling and to cultivate their abilities, writers resort to all sorts of tricks so if you are just starting out with writing article and reports and you find that you are struggling with the process you can take some comfort that even experienced writers struggle with the process.

Quite a few writers use a free-flow writing technique to build up enough momentum to blast past blocks of apathy and self-criticism commonly known as writer’s block.

Free-flow writing is a prewriting technique in which you write continuously for a set period of time without regard to spelling, grammar, or topic.  The only way to start writing is to start writing.

Believe me when I say that it gets easier with practice.  You’ve just got to give it a try.

After all you have to create a regular stream of quality informative and entertaining content for your website and unless you can pay someone to do this for you, you will have to do this yourself.

As entire books have already been written about the subject I will only spend time on what I consider the most important properties of writing a great article with the focus upon quality, information and entertainment.

7 Days to Unstoppable Self-ConfidenceForget everything you were taught in English class!

First of all forget everything you were taught in English class. You want to write in your own style and at an 8th grade reader level.  Don’t try to impress your readers with how clever you are.  Keeping this in mind you shouldn’t use big words but strive to use simpler, shorter words that have the same meaning.

It is quite easy to bore your readers, especially when you try to bring a point across in a how to article or report.  To add some sizzle and spice into the mix you could bring your point across through the use of an anecdote or story.

“Stories are the creative conversion of life itself into a more powerful, clearer, more meaningful experience. They are the currency of human contact.” – Robert McKee

Don’t try to be something you are not.  Be yourself and let your personality shine through in your writing.

Word Count and Format

By now you are probably wondering how long your articles should be?  Your articles should ideally be approximately 700 to 1000 words long.  You should try to keep your articles short, sweet, and to the point.

Bearing in mind that you will want to use your articles to promote your website by submitting them to article directories it may be an idea to establish their requirements.  Article directories have strict guidelines involving a specific maximum word count and format.

Break Up the Lines of Text for an Easier Read

Use bulleted points where you can and break up the lines of text with transitional effects like this… and this — or use (parenthesis like this) to make it easier on your reader’s eyes.

Keep your sentences short and to the point.  The same applies to paragraphs.  Nobody wants to read a massive block of text.

Try to include subheadings addressing particular ideas within your article as these breaks up the lines of text making your article easier to read.

Focus Upon Delivering Real Content

Don’t go off in a tangent when writing your article… You want to keep your article focused on your topic in order to deliver real content to a targeted audience.  You should focus on providing useful information to your readers.

The only way to provide useful information to your readers is to carry out the appropriate research for the article.

Give your readers the facts and provide links to supplementary resources if necessary.  However, as you do not want your reader to migrate away from your page you should make sure that the links open another window.

CopyrightDeliberate Creation Instant Self-Hypnosis

Whatever you do you should never copy somebody else’s work word for word as this is known as this is copyright infringement.  However, it is neither unlawful nor immoral to use information gleamed from articles, reports or books to create your own article or report.  Take notes while reading articles and reports and use the information to write your own in your own words.

An easy way to make sure that you do not fall foul of the copyright laws is when preparing to write an article you should:

  • Make a list of what you know about the subject;
  • Do an internet search on the topic;
  • Read the various articles and webpages your search has turned up;
  • Take notes for future reference of the salient points; and
  • Write your article in your own words

Remember that you want to provide excellent quality, informative and entertaining articles.  However, even though you are providing your readers with great content you should always leave out some information that you know that your readers would dearly love to get their hands on.

This additional information can then be included in reports that can either be given away in return for their name and email address or sold.

Plagiarism

The Merriam Webster dictionary (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/) defines plagiarism as…

Transitive verb: to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one’s own : use (another’s production) without crediting the source

Intransitive verb: to commit literary theft: present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.

And the Council of Writing Program Administrators (http://wpacouncil.org/node/9) defines it in an instructional setting as plagiarism occurs when a writer deliberately uses someone else’s language, ideas, or other original (not common-knowledge) material without acknowledging its source.

Plagiarism is not a crime as such but is definitely frowned upon and some cases of plagiarism can involve liability for copyright infringement.

Most cases of plagiarism can be sidestepped simply by quoting the sources and by acknowledging that specified material has been borrowed.  Providing your readers with the basic information to find that particular source is generally enough to avoid plagiarism.

Resource Box

Considering that apart from using your articles as content for your own website or blog you will also want to use them to promote your website by submitting them to article directories…

And this is where the resource box comes into its own.  This is where you include your sales pitch and the links back to your website.  The resource box is appended at the end of your article and consists out of a few lines of text that gives a “snapshot” about the author of the article and lets you include a subtle “PLUG” about you, your blog or website, your newsletter, etc.

It’s particularly vital not to misuse your resource box with barefaced plugs and sales pitches as this is frowned upon.  Just concentrate on providing a quality and informative article.

When creating your resource box do so in the third person as I’ve done below in my resource box below.

Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

Let’s face it most of us – myself included – find it somewhat tempting to remain in our comfort zones. However, this is not where we grow, improve, and make the necessary changes to significantly move forward with our businesses or our lives.

It’s so easy to become complacent and getting stuck in our ways.  This is something you should strive to avoid in both business and in many areas of life.

I therefore challenge you to start writing those articles and reports for your website.  Don’t wait till tomorrow – But do it NOW.  The sooner you start, the sooner you can build that momentum to regularly create unique content for your readers in order attract them to your site to build that all important list.

Zero Resistance Weight ReleaseA Final Word

A final word – Take consistent action and follow proven success blueprints. Those  of you who believe you will succeed, come heck or high water, are the ones who will succeed.

As the old saying goes, “A journey of one thousand miles begins with a single step.” And in most cases, that first step occurs in your mind.

“You are responsible for exactly who, what, and where you are in life. That will be just as true this time next year.” – Kekich Credo #58

“One day you will wake up and there won’t be any more time to do the things you’ve always wanted. Do it now.” – Paulo Coelho

Act NOW!

I hope that you find the above will help you to write a regular stream of quality informative and entertaining content for your website and that ultimately help you build your list.
