How to Protect Your Thank You Sales Pages from Illegal Downloads Using Expiring Links

Hi Guys,

We last looked at how to explode your monthly income from the use of quality PLR products, I thought that now would be a good time to look at “How to Protect Your Thank You Sales Pages From Illegal Downloads Using Expiring Links”. After all we are in the business of selling downloadable products and I certainly do not want people to help themselves to my products unless I invite them to do so myself.

Today I would like to talk about protection; the protection of your thank you pages to be exact.

What a world we live in, where as an affiliate you have to protect your affiliate links and where you have to protect your thank you pages should you be selling downloadable products such as eBooks and software as you run the risk of your own products being stolen from your thank you pages.

It is cause for concern when one considers that it has been estimated that more than half of all downloadable products such as eBooks and software in use consist of stolen copies with the majority having been stolen from thank you pages.

Internet marketers are very aware of this problem though I’d surmise most don’t realize how extensive this issue is.

Let’s face it there are a lot of unscrupulous people out there and some of them may be masquerading as customers.

Using alphanumeric names for your “thank you” page may help secure the download or thank you page but it does nothing for your product security when your customers illegally share your link with family, friends and even in some cases on forums.

This of course means lost sales and income as potential customers simply grab a copy of your product for FREE instead of paying you for it.

This is both very costly and very annoying.

There’s a lot of misinformation on the Internet about how hackers and thieves actually gain access to thank you pages without paying.

The reality is that unless you give your thank you page a name that is easy to guess, like “thanks.html”, it’s actually quite hard for people to find it.

If you give your thank you page a random name with letters and digits in, such as “ty_35369712.html”, even sophisticated hacking software is unlikely to find it.

However, there is, as mentioned above, still a serious risk of a customer sharing his or her link with friends, or even posting the link on forums or Warez (illegal download) sites.

The problem can be made considerably worse if a search engine picks up the link, making it accessible to anyone doing a search for your product.

The best solution therefore to protect your digital products from theft is to get a download protector that creates “expiring links” i.e. using download links that expire in a set time, say 24, 48 or 72 hours. These “expiring links” will definitely increase your thank you page security .

Each customer gets his or her own personal link to your thank you page that only works for a limited period of time (typically 24 to 48 hours). This limits the time that search engines could find and index your links or files. After this period, the link is disabled, making it useless to forum and search engine traffic.

You can also add to the security of an expiring download link by limiting the number of times the product can be downloaded.

If your client still needs access after the link has expired they can always email you to request an extension and you could send them a new expiring link if necessary.

Apart from limiting the number of times the individual file can be downloaded through each link you can also lock the link to a single IP address, so it’s useless to anyone other than the actual customer.

The download protection software can automatically create expiring links in the time frame you set and you can even decide not to “expire” the download links if desired.

Why not take a look at our brand new Dragon Download Protector software that apart from creating these special expiring links automatically it also offers a huge number of other features and benefits, making it an essential tool for anyone selling downloadable products.

Until the next time.

Warmest regards,

Alain
