Branding: How To Build Your Personal Brand

Hi Guys,

Having looked at The Three Assassins of Prosperity consisting of the following articles The Law of Fear, The Fear of Rejection, The Fear of Failure, The Fear of Success, and The Entrepreneurs Secret Weapon – how to deal with fear I have decided that we should take a look at Branding: How to Build Your Personal Brand.

Anyone both within and beyond our network can see, review and form an opinion about us according to what they find from everything we put out there – blog posts, status updates, photos, thoughts etc.

Because of that your personal brand is more important than ever.

According to a market survey by Alterian, only 6% of consumers trusted advertising and what a company says about itself. I want you to think about that for a minute – Only 6 people out of 100 people trust what the advertising and/or what a company says about itself. That is a very small number!

On the plus side, connection and interactive engagement are strongly related to the development of trust and belief. And this means that power has now shifted and is now in the hands of many.

It also means that if you don’t take control of your brand, someone else will.

So how does this affect you? How can you actually take advantage of this shift? Here’s how you can take advantage of this shift in power by building, growing and nurturing your personal brand:

  • Be Authentic and Share Your Passion – There has never been a better time in history to be a passionate entrepreneur. Consumers are sick of hyped pitches, overzealous salespeople and mass broadcasts.
  • Identify Your Target Market & Carve Out Your Niche – The clearer you are about exactly who you serve and the solutions you provide, the more clients you will attract. They are focusing on narrow, curated channels of information and contacts that best suit their needs.
  • Get In On the Conversation and Engage – We are moving away from mass broadcast to personal media. Traditional advertising and marketing methods focusing on selling and pitching information are falling on deaf ears.

So what can you do? It is rather rather simple – you must provide Value and Give. You MUST establish a relationship first with your prospective clients. A relationship based on authenticity and emotionally, before someone sees you as the authority or trust agent that you are.

One of the best ways to do this is to give away content and information that will help your potential clients. We live in an abundant universe, so don’t be afraid to give away some great content.

The people who humanize the web, connect and build relationships, provide valuable content and communicate with their potential clients in a real and thoughtful way, are the most likely to develop a community around their brand and cultivate success.

Consumers, regardless of industry, have choices and if we’re not at the top of their mind where and when they’re seeking information and direction, then we are absent and forgettable. And this is certainly not a place you want to be.

You want to be the trusted go-to guy in whatever niche you are operating in. The one they will turn to in your niche for answers.

So go out there and engage to get your brand out there. Help your clients to succeed and this will reflect itself on your business and your brand.

Until the next time,

Alain
